The United States is in the midst of a public health epidemic, with more than 40 people dying each day from prescription opioid overdoses. Health care systems are implementing policy and practice interventions in an effort to address the opioid overdose epidemic. Kaiser Permanente ’s Safe and Appropriate Opioid Prescribing Program was implemented in 2010, and is among the organization’s most successful efforts to address the problem of opioid addiction, not only for members, but for the communities in which it operates.

| Medica to Expand into Eight Counties in Southwest Wisconsin |
Medica today filed with the State of Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance to sell individual health insurance products in 21 counties for the 2018 coverage year. The filing includes a new product, Engage by Medica, which features Mayo Clinic Health System as a preferred network provider. The product will be offered in 14 counties. More information about Engage by Medica will be available when all regulatory approvals have been finalized.
